“Joe Frazier was humble, but bold in his own was — especially in the way he fought. He was bold in the punishment he was willing to take in order to dish out punishment.
Joe was blue-collar and came from humble beginnings, and somewhere along the way, he developed one of the best left hooks that I’ve ever seen. It’s sad because Joe’s a guy who always felt like he didn’t get the respect he deserved in his time. He was overshadowed by Muhammad Ali. He felt like he was a second-class citizen to Ali and other heavyweights. That’s what fueled him. The thing that he despised is what made him.
‘Smokin’ Joe had a hard road. He made the most of what he had and overachieved. In talent, ability, and namesake, he maxed out. He gave everything he had to the sport of boxing. That’s why we still talk about him today.” -Andre Ward
Guest creative director Andre Ward joined forces with us at ROF to bring his vision to life, celebrating Black Boxing Royalty — those who came before him and paved the way to his own success. His story happened because great fighters like Smokin’ Joe Frazier told theirs so well.
